Treatment Foster Care Program
New Mexico Solutions provides high quality behavioral health services to children in our communities through our Treatment Foster Care (TFC) program. TFC caters to the behavioral, emotional, psychological, and social needs of children and youth by providing a stable, nurturing, treatment-oriented approach in a supportive family setting to strengthen a child’s connection with birth families and work toward a permanent living solution.
With decades of commitment to families, our TFC program stands apart for its deep level of support and thoughtful approach to matching children with the right homes. Many of our foster families have been with us for more than 20 years, reflecting the strength of our relationships and the quality of our care.
Who We Serve
Children and youth enter foster care for many reasons, often during times of significant change or crisis in their lives. Treatment foster care offers a safe, nurturing home when living with their family is not possible. The young people we serve may benefit from additional emotional or behavioral support and thrive with caregivers who have the time, training, and compassion to meet their unique needs.
Each child’s time in treatment foster care is guided by their individual strengths, goals, and support needs. As youth build skills and stability, they may reunify with their family, transition to a traditional foster care setting, or move toward independent living, depending on what best supports their long-term well-being.
How it Works
The treatment foster care home is the heart of the healing process. Foster parents are specially trained and supported to provide consistent care and to help children work toward the goals outlined in their individualized treatment plans. While foster parents play a central role, treatment planning is a collaborative effort guided by experienced clinical staff.
Treatment focuses on building skills, strengthening relationships, and helping children and families respond to the experiences that led to the need for care. Each child is supported by a treatment team that works together to promote growth, stability, and success. The team includes the foster parent(s), treatment coordinator, therapist, the child and their family, the state social worker, and other community partners as needed.
Through this coordinated approach, children benefit from the stability of a family home and community-based setting while receiving individualized, intensive therapeutic and clinical support tailored to their needs.
